Help, my skin is in crisis!

Have you just tried a new cosmetic product and your skin starts to sting? Are you on public transport, at the office or with friends, and suddenly redness appears on your face? Your skin has just reacted to an aggressor. These sensations are a real nuisance for people with intolerant and hyper-reactive skin. Especially as these reactions are unpredictable! To quickly soothe this irritation, you can adopt a few simple practices.

The best practices to soothe reactive skin

  • Cleanse the affected area with a lotion for intolerant skin applied using your fingertips.
  • Spray your skin with a thermal spring water mist to naturally soothe irritation.
  • Apply a soothing cream, preferably one that’s fragrance-free and preservative-free like Sterile Cosmetics® products, so that you're only putting ingredients suitable for intolerant skin on your skin.

Reactive skin: what to avoid

  • Avoid cleansing with running water, as some hypersensitive skin is also reactive to limescale and chlorine, which can increase discomfort. If you usually rinse your face, finish with a fine mist of thermal spring water to soothe and remove any traces of potentially irritating compounds.
  • To cleanse your skin, opt for a gentle texture such as a milk or gel lotion, to be applied directly with your fingertips to avoid over-irritating the skin with a cotton pad. If removing make-up with cotton wool is essential for you, soak it first with thermal spring water, then with your cleansing product, to soften the cotton fibres: a fresh effect is guaranteed!

FRIENDLY (AND EXPERT) ADVICE

Hypersensitive skin: when should you consult an expert?

Tight skin, severe redness, strong itching, swelling... If you have had this type of reaction on several occasions, you should consult a dermatologist without delay. It may be caused by a real allergy, which may, for example, cause eczema or hives. A consultation will allow you to investigate the cause of this allergy by carrying out allergy tests if necessary.

In any case, your doctor will be able to guide you towards cleansing and care products suitable for your skin.

How do you avoid a flare-up?

Use the right products every day

When the skin is well moisturised and protected, flare-ups become less frequent and less intense. Every day you should, therefore, apply a moisturising cream or balm suitable for hypersensitive skin, ideally without fragrances or preservatives, as with Sterile Cosmetics®. The skin will then be more resistant to external aggressors.

Finally, it is important not to increase the number of cosmetics applied to the skin each day. The more different products you use, the more likely you are to come across a lotion or cream that your skin will find difficult to tolerate. It also makes it more difficult to identify the precise causes of your reactions.

Identify the causes of the flare-ups

Intolerant skin has sudden and often unpredictable reactions. However, you can try to prevent tingling, tightness or irritation by identifying the trigger.

Hypersensitive skin can react to an external factor, such as irritants in some cosmetics, a pollutant in the air or exposure to the sun. If one of these aggressors triggers discomfort and irritation of your skin, you can already avoid it or carefully protect your skin beforehand.
