Make-up for drooping eyelids

Whether it is their natural shape or they’re sagging with age, drooping eyelids can make you look sad or tired. The good news is that this effect can be corrected with the right make-up techniques (and without surgery).

Droopy eyelids: why and how?

What is a droopy eyelid? It is simply the skin of our eyebrow arch that sags over our mobile eyelid and makes it look heavy. The number of times we blink in a day (more than 10,000 per day!) and the ageing of the skin around the eyes, which is particularly thin, are the main causes.

Thanks to make-up, it is fortunately possible to add a little youthfulness to eyes that have become sad or tired due to sagging eyelids. To open up your eyes and give you a healthy glow, pencil, mascara, eyeshadow and eyebrow pencils are your best friends!

The more I make up my eyes, the heavier my eyelids look, so I prefer to limit my make-up to a light eyeshadow, mascara on the upper lashes and a pencil to lengthen my eyebrow—in the end it’s much better

How to apply make-up to drooping eyelids

Make-up for drooping eyelids should follow a few simple rules to avoid accentuating the tired look. Start by applying an eye make-up base such as an eye contour cream to increase its hold. And keep in mind this golden rule: a light colour on the mobile eyelid, a darker shade on the fixed eyelid.
The lightest shade should be applied with a brush on the mobile eyelid. And with a darker colour, play up the hollows and volumes of the fixed eyelid. Still using a brush, apply the colour to the crease of your eyelid and blend slightly above it to the part of your eyelid that falls downwards, always taking care not to apply any shadow past the line that runs from the corner of the nose to the outer corner of the eye. This makes the upper corner of the eyelid appear higher.

The illusion is perfect, as long as you avoid iridescent shadows and blend the colour well on the upper lid.

You don't need an entire palette of eyeshadows to apply make up your eyelids. With their wide variety of shades, from the lightest to the darkest, the translucent, healthy glow and sun mosaic powders allow for all combinations to make your eyes look more radiant.

Make-up for drooping eyelids: pro tip

Eyeliner, mascara and eyebrow pencil can also help to open up your eyes.

Eyeliner and mascara

There’s a very effective solution for lifting the eyes: draw your eyeliner line on the upper eyelid with an eye pencil, without going all the way down to the outer corner. To avoid the droopy eye effect, it’s better not to go beyond the diagonal line formed by the outside of the nose and the outer corner of the eye, and to stop a little before that (you can use a brush or your pencil to find the diagonal). If you’ve gone beyond this line, remove the excess with a cotton swab dipped in foundation. This tip can also be useful if you’ve smudged your eyeshadow or mascara. Once this corrective technique is complete, apply mascara, placing emphasis on the lashes in the centre. This is perfect for lifting your eyes.

Eyebrow shaping

The eyebrows frame your eyes, so they can help you open them up. Start by reshaping them, then, with your eyebrow pencil, draw small strokes from the beginning to the highest point of your eyebrows (which is located on the diagonal from the outside of the nose to pupil). Then, play with their length and contour: by raising them, accentuating them slightly and lengthening them, you will avoid the droopy eye look. Powder your brows with the Translucent or Brightening Mosaic Powder to set the them in place once you are happy with their shape and finish by brushing them for a more natural look. If you notice asymmetry or to correct a mistake, use the "make-up eraser": a cotton swab dipped in foundation, which is quicker and more effective.

FRIENDLY (AND EXPERT) ADVICE

Energizing your eyes is good. Energizing your whole face is better!

Eye make-up is one of the key steps in your make-up routine. To accentuate the overall glow of your face, start by evening out your skin tone with a liquid foundation or a compact foundation cream. After setting your make-up with the brightening mosaic powder, don't hesitate to add a touch of healthy glow or sun mosaic powder with a brush, from the apples of the cheeks towards the cheekbones. Finally, you can highlight the lips with a beautifying balm (matte lipstick accentuates a tired look), and set everything with a misting of thermal spring water, which will help prolong the wear of your make-up.

The right way to remove make-up from the eyes gently

The skin of the eyelids is extremely thin. The make-up removal stage should therefore particularly delicate if you don't want to accentuate their "wrinkled" look. For more gentleness, start by soaking your cotton pad with thermal spring water before applying your make-up remover. Then place it on the eyelid and leave for three seconds. Then, use very gentle up and down movements. In case of fragile lashes, use the Tolérance gel lotion, applying it with your fingers.
