How do you apply make-up to dehydrated skin?

If your skin is tight, lacks suppleness and radiance, flakes and shows signs of dehydration, it’s likely that you are having trouble keeping your make-up on your face. This is normal: your skin is dehydrated. Here are our tips for making this a non-issue.

Dehydrated skin: rehydrate before applying make-up

How do you recognise dehydrated skin (and how not to confuse it with dry skin)? Unlike dry skin (which is permanently dry), dehydrated skin is only temporarily dry. It affects all ages and all skin types, and can be exacerbated by factors such as wind, cold or dry atmospheres.

Under the effect of this dehydration, of this excessive evaporation of the water contained in the epidermis, the skin becomes dull, lacks softness and make-up fades rapidly. Before thinking about make-up, it’s therefore essential to start by carefully rehydrating the skin with an emulsion or a suitable cream so that it remains comfortable all day. The application of a serum as a complement is very useful to boost the hydration of the epidermis and prepare the skin to receive make-up.

How to wear make-up in autumn/winter

I have dehydrated skin—it's hell. When I put foundation on, it's never even, it doesn't spread well, my skin absorbs it and I feel like my skin is all cracked after a few hours... I don't even dare to put it on anymore.

Dehydrated skin: even out the complexion

To apply make up on dehydrated skin, it’s best to use a liquid foundation to even out the complexion.
Patted on with a sponge, the Fluid Foundation Corrector is particularly effective in reducing dehydration marks and flaking.
Then blend the edges of the face, not forgetting the neck. If your skin is fair, choose a foundation shade with a hint of pink: it will give your complexion more radiance.

Dehydrated skin: powder, but not too much

Powder is necessary to set make-up. But on dehydrated skin, it is better to be light-handed.

Set your make-up lightly

While oily skin needs powder to be mattified, dehydrated skin risks looking even drier if too much is used. To set your make-up while limiting tightness, dehydration marks and flaking, a veil of Brightening Mosaic Powder applied with a large brush is all that’s needed. This powder will also bring just the right amount of luminosity to the complexion.

Setting, reviving and sculpting

If the complexion is very dull, or even grey, you can opt for the Healthy Glow Mosaic Powder. You mix all the shades with a large brush and apply it all over the face. To sculpt the face, the pink side of the powder should applied, still with a large brush, along the hairline, the tops of the cheekbones and along the jawline. To finish, add some eyeliner, a touch of mascara and a coat of lip perfector on the lips. The Velvet Pink shade will add an extra touch of radiance to your complexion.

FRIENDLY (AND EXPERT) ADVICE

Dehydrated skin is sensitive and reactive. Here are some tips for gentle make-up removal.

As mentioned, dehydration affects all skin types. If yours is rather dry, opt for a milk cleanser, which is perfectly adapted because it is very nourishing. For more softness and smoothness, apply it with your fingertips in light circular motions (without forgetting the neck), and remove the excess with a tissue. Finish your make-up removal with a cotton pad soaked in Gentle Toning Lotion to moisturise your skin. If your skin is combination or oily, you can remove it with a micellar water and a cotton pad. Hold the pad between your middle finger and index finger, and run it over the neck and from the inside to the outside of the face, keeping your fingers flat. These gentle movements ensure that your skin is not overly stressed by vigorous gestures.

The right way to apply make-up to dehydrated skin

A spritz of thermal spring water about twenty centimetres from your face: this is the little extra step that will allow you to soothe your sensitive and dehydrated skin after you have removed your make-up. After make-up, this same gesture will also prolong the wear of your make-up.
