Make-up for vitiligo and white patches
It’s a disease whose causes have yet to be determined, and it can be recognised by its more or less extensive white patches on the skin. Even if it isn’t painful, depigmentation due to vitiligo can be disabling in everyday life. Make-up can help to improve its appearance.
Make-up for vitiligo and white spots: moisturise and protect
Vitiligo is the result of the loss of melanocytes, the cells that normally synthesise melanin, the skin's main pigment. Although little is known about its causes, it is known that the sun plays a role in the onset and aggravation of vitiligo. Indeed, the depigmented areas – the white spots – are very sensitive to the sun’s UV rays.
It is therefore necessary to protect the depigmented areas permanently. If you have vitiligo on your face and want to apply make-up, always use an SPF50+ sun cream or fluid as a base.
I have been suffering from vitiligo for some years. I've tried everything but I'm still looking for the perfect product to hide my white spots and even out my skin tone..
Make-up for vitiligo and white spots: correcting and evening out the complexion
Very rich in pigments and with high coverage, the compact foundation cream is the most suitable to fill in the depigmented area to match your original skin tone.
If the space isn’t very large, you can apply it with a sponge. Start by smoothing and then dabbing the product on the white spots. Finish with a veil of Translucent Mosaic Powder to set the make-up
If the depigmented areas are not very extensive, they can be darkened with an eyebrow pencil (blonde if the skin is light, brown if it is black). Lay the pencil flat and fill in the area, and then blend with a brush for a more natural look. This can be done on top of the Compact Foundation Cream or directly on the skin.
If the difference between the white patches and the original skin tone is greater, you will need a Compact Foundation Cream in a deeper shade for the depigmented areas. For a very natural result, add a touch of green corrector stick. Start by applying the Compact Foundation Cream and layer a small amount of the green corrector stick with your fingertip. In this way, the shade will perfectly match your skin tone. This correction is as effective on the face as on the body.
How to correct and neutralise small flaws
Self-tanner for vitiligo and white spots
On certain depigmented areas such as the hands, for example, the use of a self-tanner can lastingly tint the difference in skin tone.
White spots: long-lasting colour with self-tanner
Self-tanner can be used on the face as well as on the body, for both women and men. Apply it with a brush from the outside to the inside of the depigmented area, in thin and even layers. In order not to accentuate the demarcation between the pigmented and non-pigmented areas, wipe the edges with a cotton swab. You can repeat the application as many times as necessary until you get the right shade and an even result.
White spots: blend with the Compact Foundation Cream
If you want an even more natural result, you can even out the skin with the Compact Foundation Cream. Allow about two hours for the colour of the self-tanner to develop, then apply a moisturiser with sun protection and the Compact Foundation Cream, before setting the make-up with a veil of translucent powder.
FRIENDLY (AND EXPERT) ADVICE
Your complexion is now even. Here's how to enhance the rest of your face.
Start by focusing on your eyes: trace some eye pencil around the upper lid and you'll have a nice eyeliner effect. On the lower lash line, you’ll achieve a kohl effect eye make-up look. Finally, add a touch of mascara to your lashes. Don't neglect your eyebrows: they frame your eyes, so it's important to shape them or fill them in with an eyebrow pencil—blonde or brown depending on your hair colour. Finish with a touch of lip perfector on the lips.
The right gestures for make-up on vitiligo and white spots
When you have vitiligo, make-up removal must be as gentle as possible. Indeed, repeated rubbing can also contribute to the spread of the disease. To preserve your skin, use a milk cleanser and apply it with your fingertips in light circular motions (without forgetting your neck). Remove the excess gently with a tissue. If you are a micellar lotion fan, use reusable cotton pads, which are softer than disposable cotton pads. Hold the cotton pad between your middle finger and index finger and sweep it over the neck and from the inside to the outside of the face. Keep your fingers flat. These gentle movements ensure that your skin is not overly stressed by vigorous gestures.
