How do you apply make-up when you are a teenager?
Adolescence is the age of firsts. First dates, first loves... and first experiences with make-up. Here are some tips that will guarantee success, whether it's a matter of looking fashionable or hiding imperfections.
What are the characteristics of teenage skin?
Most teenagers, both boys and girls, have oily skin, with or without blemishes such as acne. The cause is hormonal upheaval during puberty, which causes the skin to produce more sebum. Blemishes occur when it is difficult for the oil to drain through the pores of the skin, most often on the forehead, around the nose, on the chin, etc.
When you're a teenager, the challenge is to mattify oily skin and/or hide imperfections with the right products and without being too heavy-handed. Because an unsuitable foundation, applied too generously and not removed properly at night, is a guarantee that imperfections will multiply!
Correct and even out teenage skin, with or without imperfections
After carefully removing your make-up and moisturising your face, it's time to apply make up. It’s important to choose a non-comedogenic product that is suitable for your skin type.
Your skin is oily and/or has few imperfections
Your first goal is to conceal large pores and even out your skin tone. To do this, apply a liquid foundation all over your face, patting it on with a sponge. To conceal any blemishes, apply a touch of beige concealer to the imperfections. Blend the edges of the concealer with a cotton swab.
Your skin is oily with moderate acne
Before evening out the complexion, you need to neutralise imperfections with a corrector stick: a green stick camouflages red spots; a yellow one masks purple spots (frequent on fair skin); and a coral one cancels out scars that tend to turn brown. Apply the colour by dabbing it on with your fingertip or with a fine brush until you get a grey tint. Now you can even out your skin tone: opt for a compact foundation cream that you apply with a sponge and pat on for coverage. For a light, natural finish without a cakey effect, smooth outwards.
Tips for setting make-up and mattifying the complexion
Once your complexion has been evened out, all you have to do is mattify it. To do this, apply a veil of translucent powder to your face with a brush. This will also help you set your make-up. For a light result that does not accentuate the appearance of pimples, finish the application by sweeping the brush from the edges to the centre of the face.
Good to know: clean your brushes and sponges regularly. Otherwise, impurities could build up and redeposit on your face, leading to the appearance of new pimples. If you wear make-up every day, it can be useful to have several of these accessories.
I tend to hide my acne under a thick layer of make-up. I know it's not great, but without it I feel insecure. I can't talk to people face to face, I always look away, I don't want people to look at me closely..
FRIENDLY (AND EXPERT) ADVICE
You are now ready to go to school! But you can also add a little finishing touch.
Your complexion is even and matte, and any pimples are no longer visible. This is good because you will be less tempted to pick at them. You now have two options: stop your make-up application there, with this very natural finish. Or add a touch of mascara to your eyes or a touch of lip perfector.
In any cases, whether your make-up is nude or a little more elaborate, spray a bit of thermal spring water onto your face to extend the make-up’s wear.
The right habits to preserve your teenage skin
These tips will only be effective if you follow these two rules: make-up removal and moisturising. Only regular cleansing and make-up removal in the morning and evening to remove impurities and appropriate daily moisturising will limit the appearance of new imperfections.
For best results, these should be non-comedogenic and formulated for sensitive skin.
